The F5 life

Pillar 04 of 05

Fitness

When the body is trained, discipline stops being a mood and becomes a default.

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.

Proverbs 4:23 · WEBBE

This is not about a physique. It is about capacity. Energy, sleep, clarity and patience are not personality traits. They are outputs, and they come from how you treat the machine.

Fitness is also where discipline is cheapest to buy. Nobody is depending on your set of squats. That makes it the safest place in your life to practise keeping a promise to yourself, and the habit does not stay in the gym. Someone who keeps a hard six o’clock appointment with nobody watching becomes someone who keeps the hard ones that others can see.

The standard here is not extreme. It is repeatable. A plan you can run for ten years beats a plan you can survive for six weeks.

When it is strong

  • Your family gets some of your energy, not only whatever your work did not use.
  • You train on the days you do not feel like it, and you do not make it a story.
  • Sleep, food and movement are decisions rather than accidents.

Where it cracks

  • Caffeine is doing the job that sleep should be doing.
  • You are consistently too tired to be patient.
  • Your health plan is to deal with it later.

The reps

Small enough to actually do on a bad week. That is the point. A rep you skip when life gets heavy was never a rep, it was a wish.

  1. 01

    Move every day

Thirty minutes. Walking counts. Consistency beats intensity every single time.

  2. 02

    Train three times a week

Resistance work. Something that gets heavier over months, so you can watch it get heavier.

  3. 03

    Protect the sleep window

Same bedtime, seven days. The weekend reset is a myth and it costs you Monday.

  4. 04

    Eat like it matters

Protein and water first, then everything else. Do not overthink the rest.

Say it out loud

I will train the body that carries the calling, on the days I feel it and the days I do not.
