Pillar 02 of 05

Family

When family is strong, home stops being the place you recover from the day.

As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Joshua 24:15 · WEBBE

It is possible to be admired everywhere and absent at home. It happens slowly, and it is almost always justified. The travel is for them. The hours are for them. The pressure is for them. Then one day the people it was all for know you mainly as a schedule.

Family is the first assignment, not the reward for finishing the other four. The people under your roof are not an audience for your success. They are the work itself, and they are watching the version of you that never gets a stage or a filter.

Presence is the currency here, and it does not convert from money. An hour of undivided attention buys something that a good year of provision cannot.

When it is strong

  • Your calendar and your stated priorities would tell a stranger the same story.
  • Hard conversations happen early, while they are still small.
  • The people closest to you would describe you the way you describe yourself.

Where it cracks

  • You are physically home and mentally at work.
  • Conflict gets managed rather than resolved.
  • You know your numbers better than you know what your people are carrying right now.

The reps

Small enough to actually do on a bad week. That is the point. A rep you skip when life gets heavy was never a rep, it was a wish.

  1. 01

    One meal, no screens

The phone goes in another room. Not face down on the table. Another room.

  2. 02

    Ask a real question

Not how was your day. Ask what the hardest part of today was, then say nothing for a while.

  3. 03

    Guard one window

Pick a recurring block that nothing gets to take. Defend it like a contract, because it is one.

  4. 04

    Repair fast

Apologise the same day, specifically, without the word but anywhere in the sentence.

Say it out loud

I will win at home first, and give my people my presence and not just my provision.
