Every life is built on something. Most people never choose what. They inherit a foundation from their family, their fears, or whatever the last hard year taught them, and then they wonder why the whole structure moves when the weather changes.
Faith is the decision to pour a foundation on purpose. It is not a feeling you wait for. It is a place you stand when the feeling is gone. The house in the parable did not survive because it was a better house. It survived because of what was underneath it.
This pillar comes first for a reason. Family, friends, fitness and finance are all load bearing walls. None of them can be the foundation. Ask any one of them to carry the weight of your identity and it will crack, and it will take you down with it.
When it is strong
- Your worst week and your best week produce the same person.
- You can be told no without needing to be told who you are.
- You give from conviction rather than from what is left over.
Where it cracks
- Your mood tracks your metrics.
- Prayer only happens at the level of emergency.
- You know what you believe but could not say when you last acted on it.
The reps
Small enough to actually do on a bad week. That is the point. A rep you skip when life gets heavy was never a rep, it was a wish.
